A micrometer is a measuring instrument for determining the linear dimension. Most well-known are micrometers in various construction forms, which afford partly different applications. The classic micrometer has a fixed and an adjustable measuring surface which is connected by a frame. The to be measured object has to be inserted between both parallel measuring surfaces and turn off by means of a setting screw until the surfaces are contacting the object.
